Clouds: I can watch their
films in puddles
passionate and slow
without obligations of shape or
stillness-
from Looking Down, Alice Oswald, Falling Awake, Poems
I’ve landed on my first Citizen Science project: Globe Observer Clouds out of NASA. It seemed the most practical choice, especially since we are lucky to see a lot of changing sky from our lanai. And given that unfortunately we are on the verge of a total shut down here in Honolulu, I may not get out into parks or to the ocean for awhile. The sky and clouds also make their way in to poetry all the time, so there will be lots of lit connections. I’m thinking of James Schuyler, for instance, and how he is always looking up. The Globe Observer: Clouds program will include downloading an app, training module, and documenting the clouds from below (looking up from my lanai) and down (from satallites). Not sure what that will tell NASA about us and the earth yet, but looking foward to being inspired and to looking up. More to come on this.
